Description

Also known as Irish oats or pinhead oats they create a chewy, full-bodied hot cereal. While steel cut oats have a longer cooking time compared to rolled oats, they’re well worth the effort. Cooking steel cut oats in the slow cooker overnight means you’ll wake up to a delicious whole grain breakfast, no stirring required.

Instructions

Make my award-winning oatmeal at home: Bring water and salt to a boil. Add Steel Cut Oats, reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes (or longer for creamier oatmeal). Remove from heat and let stand for 2 minutes. Servings: 1 serving; 1/4 cup oats; 3/4 cup water; pinch salt. Servings: 2 servings; 1/2 cup oats; 1 1/2 cups water; pinch salt. Servings: 3 servings; 3/4 cup oats; 2 1/4 cups water; 1/4 tsp salt. Servings: 4 servings; 1 cup oats; 3 cups water; 1/4 tsp salt. Steel Cut Oats in the Slow Cooker: Combine 4 cups water, 1 cup oats and 1/2 tsp salt in a 4-6 quart slow cooker. Cover with lid and cook on low for 7-8 hours or overnight. Makes 4 servings. Store in a cool, dry place. Keeps best refrigerated or frozen after opening. Tear to open.
