Apple Turnovers
These easy-to-make turnovers work for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a delicious dessert, especially paired with vanilla ice cream. Choose local apples when possible.
Ingredients
- 3 Apples – Peeled, Cored, And Diced
- 1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry, Thawed
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- Pinch Salt
- 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 Tablespoon Water
- 1 Egg
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lay out pastry and trim edges to form as close to a square as possible. Cut into 4 smaller squares. In large skillet over medium heat, warm butter until it begins to bubble. Add apples and cook 5 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, and cinnamon and cook additional 10 minutes to soften apples. Remove from heat. While apples are cooking, whisk water and egg in small bowl. Place 1/4 apple mixture in center of each pastry piece, fold opposite corners and seal with egg wash. Brush tops of each pastry with egg wash. Place on baking sheet and bake until puffed and golden brown (about 10 minutes). Serve warm.
