How to Use Papa's Cedar Grilling Planks: Before you Grill: Soak the plank you are going to cook on in clean water. You may have to weight the planks to keep them submerged. Soak the planks for at least an hour before cooking to get maximum flavor. Grilling: Heat your grill to your desired cooking temperature. Place the plank on the grill and heat both sides. Place your fish or seafood directly on the heated plank. Close the grill lid and slow cook. You should not need to flip your food when cooking on a cedar plank. Caution: Always use oven mits when handling your cedar plank after it has been placed on the grill. The plank becomes extremely hot and will burn bare hands. Papa suggests keeping a spray bottle of water close by, also. It is not unusual for the edges to flare up. If this happens, simply spray the plank with water until the flame goes out. After Grilling: Allow the plank to cool before removing from the grill. You can wash and re-use your cedar plank, but Papa recommends only using the plank once, because some of the delicious flavor may be lost during second use.
